Pura Vida is a phrase used uniquely by Costa Ricans, of which I have become quite fond over the past several weeks. You can almost always guarantee that when you greet anybody with even a basic “hola, como estas?”, the response will be an enthusiastic “pura vida!” accompanied by a warm, smiling face. It translates directly to “pure life”, and it conveys an enthusiasm and appreciation for the fact that life is good - blessed with beauty and happiness.
I certainly experienced that sentiment this weekend on the beaches of Manuel Antonio National Park. I felt so lucky to spend the weekend lying on the warm sand, splashing through the waves, and continuing to bond with the EWH students, who are truly among the most dynamic people I have ever met. It’s easy to see why one can’t help but exclaim “pura vida” when living in such a captivating country.
Words can hardly describe the breathtaking views of the ocean or the excitement of seeing monkeys jump through the trees, so I’ll fill the rest of this post with my favorite photos from the trip:

Morning on the beach. We woke up at 6:30 in order to enjoy as much time on the shore as possible.

My favorite moment was seeing a monkey give her baby a piggyback ride through the trees!

Duke girls on the beach!

During the afternoon, this iguana emerged from the forest and started roaming around in the sand.

Playing on the beach - surrounded by sand, waves, trees, and clouds. Pura Vida.
